Drone Licence Courses Available at Drone Works Ireland
We offer Drone Licence Courses and flying lessons. At Drone Works Ireland our mission is to make knowledge as accessible as possible to as many customers as possible and encourage prolific drone operations while keeping the skies safe through the highest standards of training and certification but all of this without significant cost.
We have recently teamed up with AV Train who are designated by the IAA to provide all courses in Drone Licencing.
Open A2 Remote Pilot Competency Certificate Training Course:
This drone licence courses are designed for hobby and professional pilots to fly drones in the Open A2 category which allows for drones to be flown to 30m of an uninvolved person and down to 5m from an uninvolved person in a low speed mode if the drone is correctly CE Marked – We comprehensively cover what you can and can’t do if you are flying a “legacy” drone or a drone that does not have a Class identification marking.The course takes place online throughout Covid 19
Topics for study are technical and operational mitigations for ground risk regarding meteorology, UAS flight performance and technical and operational mitigations for ground risk. Once you complete the course you can choose to register to sit the exam and if you achieve a 75% pass mark you will receive a course completion certificate.
You must also register with the IAA (Register here) and complete the A1/A3 Theoretical Knowledge examination and have your IAA Operator Number.
NOTE: This course is currently FREE and allows attendance only online but does not provide free Assessment or Certification.
The Certified Open A2 Remote Pilot Certificate of Competency Course will cost €149 if you wish to purchase at any stage.
“Once you have completed the Open A2 Course as per above then you can sit the 30 question MCQ and if you achieve 75% or more then you can attain your Remote Pilot Competency Course Completion Certificate. You must also register with the IAA (Register Here) and complete the A1/A3 Theoretical Knowledge examination and have your IAA Operator Number along with completing and declaring the self-practical the IAA will issue your A2 RPC.
Specific Category Authorisations Course:
Specific Category – Operational Authorisation & STS 01 Declaration Course for the grant of Specific Category Theoretical Knowledge Certificate:
This course covers the requirements for an Operational Authorisation in the Specific category. You will cover the principles and requirements for an Operational Authorisation and to operate under STS 01 and/or a National STS and/or one of the published PDRAs. Subjects are Air Safety, Aviation Regulations, Navigation, Human Performance Limitations, Operational Procedures, UAS General Knowledge and Meteorology. We will provide a draft operations manual for your organisation to complete and submit for approval and then you must complete a practical flight test with our examiner. The course is 2 days through Zoom and the practical assessments will take place at one of our 3 locations, either Bellewstown, Carrick on Shannon or at Future Mobility Campus Ireland beside Shannon Airport.
Specific Category – STS 02 Declaration – Beyond Visual Line of Sight for the grant of a Specific Category STS 02 Theoretical Knowledge Certificate
This course includes the Operational Authorisation and is an add on to the Specific Category Theoretical Knowledge Certificate for completing a risk assessment for Beyond Visual Line of Sight BVLOS operations.
Specific Category Light Unmanned Aircraft System Operator Certificate (LUC) Authorisation:
This is an organisational audit and approval which will be divided into Compliance Monitoring and Safety Management Systems along with operational procedures where each participant will have to complete the Specific Category Theoretical Knowledge training and the organisation will be assessed for regulatory compliance.

Through our professional drone flying lessons, we will provide you with the key knowledge you need. We appreciate there are a lot of new drone users and they can feel that flying is complicated and not possible.At Drone Works Ireland we can get you off to a flying start and in no time you’ll be capturing the footage you want to with full control over your drone.
We will show you step by step how to effectively pilot a drone, after the session you’ll feel more at home with the drone than ever before, performing manoeuvres that you never thought you would. Whether you’re a beginner or an expert we can certainly give you the advice and confidence needed to progress in the drone industry.
When in lesson we’ll concentrate on the two aspects of flying, theory and practical. Understanding how to operate the relevant drone control apps, knowing the rules and regulations on where and how you can fly as well as learning more about the route to becoming a Commercial Drone Pilot.
